Programming a computer to solve sudoku for you isn't a terribly huge feat. I hung out with computing majors at my last university all the time, and they'd write programs like that in their free time. Implementing the program to work with the robot would be roughly on the level of a junior or senior level design project.

The freshmen used the iRobots for a lot of their projects (think Roomba). Some of the guys were planning on mounting a mini fridge and programming it to roll around the lab offering drinks. Now that's useful.

perhaps they could program it to make bacon sandwiches...

And to serve cold beers, light cigarrettes.. Oh! OH! And design it to make you fresh baked muffins. Now that'd be cool.
